Tiruppur's knitwear exportsA. Sakthivel, head of the Apparel Export Promotion Council (Southern Region), reported that Tiruppur’s knitwear exports increased by Rs. 400 crore during the quarter ending in July. He noted that India’s overall apparel exports grew by 13.8% in July, with Tiruppur’s exports reaching approximately Rs. 400 crore. Exports from Tiruppur to markets including the USA, Australia, Korea, Japan, and Europe are on the rise.

Bangladesh holds a significant position in the global apparel export industry. However, the country’s current political climate will not be advantageous to India or Tirupur. He stated that there is no possibility of huge orders arriving in Tirupur or India.

“Bangladesh has 11 per cent duty-free in the Free Trade Agreement (FTA). But we don’t have that. So there is a difference in the rate of export orders coming to Bangladesh and Tiruppur. Only urgent orders are likely to arrive. Our prices will be high.”

KM Subramanian, president of Tiruppur Exporters’ Association, said, “In 2023, Tiurppur’s export was Rs. 33,500 crore. We expect up to Rs. 40,000 crore this year. At least 10 per cent growth is certain.” India’s textiles and apparel exports grew by 4.73 per cent in July, reaching US $ 2,937.56 million.
